    Mark your calendars to attend the February virtual meeting where we will hear from our new San Antonio District Engineer Gina Gallegos.  Ms. Gallegos will provide a presentation on updates to Unified Transportation Plan, the progress of projects within the district, and upcoming project lettings that will surely help improve the flow of transportation corridors such as IH-10 West and the IH-35 corridor between San Antonio and Austin.  We will also hear about the great success of the HERO program helping to reduce accident and incident time by assisting with traffic control while helping clear the roadways.  Additionally, HERO operators are providing motorist with vital assistance with roadside mechanical situations thereby reducing the number of incapacitated vehicles along the roadside.

    Gina E. Gallegos, P.E., is the district engineer for TxDOT's San Antonio District.

    The district includes 12 counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Uvalde and Wilson.

    Gallegos graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1993. She began her career at TxDOT in 1994 as an engineering assistant with the Bexar Metro Area Office in the San Antonio District. She rotated as a young engineer through various sections such as design, lab and construction. In 2006, Gallegos was selected as area engineer for the Bexar County Area Office. In 2010, Gallegos became the director of construction over a 12-county area in the San Antonio District. In November 2017, she became the director of the Construction Division where she oversaw the functions of the Construction Division, which included contractor prequalification, statewide highway improvement contract letting, bid analysis and providing technical assistance, training and expertise related to administration of the highway improvement program. On Jan. 1, 2021, she became the district engineer in the San Antonio District.

    Gallegos is a recipient of the 2016 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award and the 2017 Gibb Gilchrist Award.
