Join CMAA South/Central Texas as we welcome Jim Perschbach, President and CEO of Port San Antonio. Jim is leading a team that provides strategic support to advance the mission and vision of Port San Antonio as the innovative leader of one of the nation’s shining examples of adaptive reuse of a military instillation. Jim will give us insight on the history of Port San Antonio's transformation from federal to private, highlight the current activities on the campus today, and discuss plans for the vision and future of Port San Antonio going forward.

Port San Antonio is the Alamo City’s large and most dynamic technology and innovation campus. It’s a place that provides connected solutions in an increasingly connected world. The 1,900-acre platform, just southwest of downtown San Antonio, is home to leading global industries including Aerospace, Cyber Security, Defense, and Manufacturing, to name only a few. The Port is home to more than 80 tenant customers who employ more than 13,000 people on this unique air-, rail- and highway-served innovative property. Together, they generate more than $5 billion in annual economic activity in our region.

Thanks to a vast and growing array of highly specialized commercial and industrial spaces—combined with strategic business and talent development support our team and our stakeholders provide—industries based here are connecting with one-another as they deliver technological innovations that are transforming mature industry sectors in our region, across the country and around the world.

Port San Antonio is an invaluable asset to our community. It has been so for more than 100 years since this site was first established as Kelly Air Force Base, and it is a dynamic place today providing opportunities to thousands of families throughout this community, executed on a strategic vision established by the Port San Antonio team in 2016.

    About the Speaker:

Jim Perschbach joined the Port in 2014 as the organization’s Executive Vice President of Business Development—leading a team that provides strategic support to grow advanced industries on the 1,900-acre campus, including aerospace, cybersecurity, defense, manufacturing and global trade. He assumed the role of President & CEO in June 2018.

Previously, he worked as an attorney in private practice with one of the nation’s largest law firms, where he counseled clients in sectors that include aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

He is a past chair of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Aerospace Committee and the Alamo Academies—a nationally-renowned program within Alamo Colleges that prepares young people for careers in aerospace, cybersecurity, manufacturing and other advanced fields. He is also past chair of Alamo Colleges’ Scobee Education Center / Challenger Learning Center.

Jim's current community leadership roles include serving as an ex-officio board member of the Dee Howard Foundation and as member of the board of trustees of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. In 2018, he was appointed as Honorary Commander of the 502nd Airbase Wing / Joint Base San Antonio. He has also been named by the Business Journals as one of the country’s top 100 executives to watch in 2019.

Jim holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from The George Washington University and earned his law degree from The University of Houston Law Center.
