    Join South Central Texas CMAA for a bid day workshop brought to us by Turner Construction Company.

    The final hour of a bid day is one of the most chaotic exercises that a construction company goes through as bids are received, evaluated for completeness, and leveled for consistency across multiple trades simultaneously. Prices are fluctuating literally up to the last minute as manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers shift their pricing strategies resulting in multiple clarifications from our trade partners.

    In this workshop, we will review the preparation that goes into planning and organizing for the last hour, work through an exercise to recreate the experience, and confirm who the successful low bidder is on the project. Afterward, we will reflect on the process and share ideas on how the process can be improved through a Q&A discussion.

    Many of us on the architecture/engineering/project and construction management side of our business haven't seen a bid day live and in person! Please, bring a friend or colleague, and come join us to experience the excitement!

    About the Speakers


    JR Hudson,
    Vice President and Operations Manager
    As Director of Operations, JR is responsible for the overall leadership, staffing and complete financial control over our projects from preconstruction through construction including final job closeout. JR has spent his career working on major Sports expansions and renovations throughout the United States with an emphasis leading Athletics projects across several Higher Education campuses. Currently, JR is leading the University of Texas Athletics Hall of Fame opening in September 2019 and the Premium Seat Expansion at Texas Christian University being dedicated in October 2019.


    Eric Wildt
    Procurement Manager
    As Procurement Manager, Eric leads all outreach efforts with the subcontractor market and is responsible for controlling all purchasing instruments prepared by our project engineers, such as subcontracts, subcontract information letters, purchase order modifications, etc. Eric works with the project superintendents to assure that all subcontractors’ insurance requirements are met and kept up to date. Our Engineers play an important role in this process by keeping all parties advised, through the Job Meeting Minutes, regarding the anticipated start of work, on and off the site, as well as any pending changes to the terms and conditions of the various sub-contracts. All communications with the subcontractors’ surety will be made through Engineer.


    Patrick Byrnes

    Chief Estimator
    As Chief Estimator, Patrick leads all of our estimating functions in San Antonio and Austin including preparing our price guarantees for GMPs, CSPs, and LS bid opportunities. Patrick prepares our initial estimates with his teams and works with the architect and owner to ensure that the entire scope of work is captured and finalize realistic budget expectations to the Owner's satisfaction. Patrick will also play an important role in pulling together the subcontractor bid packages, making sure that we maximize subcontractor interest from quality firms and partnering with Eric on outreach efforts to maximize MWDBE opportunities.  While the bulk of the interface between our project engineers and Patrick occurs in the early stages of the project, this relationship is extremely important and will exist to varying degrees throughout the project to the final close-out.
