    Have you noticed that the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center has recently been expanded or are you aware that the Alamodome has undergone recent renovations? If you've been to downtown San Antonio anytime recently, the updates and improvements are hard to miss!

    Come join us as Jeff Knippel, City of San Antonio - Capital Programs Manager, presents to us his Owners' Representative perspective on the pros and cons associated with the recently completed design-build projects. Jeff will provide points of view on contract mechanics, team relationships, quality control, and overall construction management techniques.

    About the Speaker:
    As a Capital Program Manager for the City of San Antonio, Jeff Knippel provides program/project management to multi-faceted project teams. His ongoing projects include $170 million in design, construction and renovation for City Hall, Frost Tower, Hemisfair Civic Park and La Villita. In addition, he is overseeing close-out of recently completed projects, the Alamodome Renovation and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion, which totaled $370M in design-build construction.

    Jeff is a retired Air Force Colonel and Engineer with more than 27 years of experience developing and executing highly-effective installation/plant and construction programs with successful results. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1988 from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He earned a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1993.

    Jeff has developed a broad engineering background through a variety of military assignments. He started his career maintaining the Air Force’s largest wind tunnels at Arnold AFB, Tennessee; he was a joint deployments officer in Panama organizing maintenance on remote air strips; and deployed to Guantanamo Bay where he supported Operation Uphold Democracy during the Haitian crisis. Throughout his career he served in similar progressing capacities at Wright Patterson AFB, OH; Osan AFB, Korea; and the Pentagon and he has served two tours in Iraq, first as Officer in Charge of AF construction in Iraq and then as the first Air Force Civil Engineer to command a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, District as the Commander of the Gulf Region South District, Tallil Iraq. During this period he was awarded two (2) Bronze Stars for his performance during combat operations. Finally, in his last two assignments, Jeff served as the Deputy Director, Environmental Center of Excellence at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and as the Civil Engineer Director of Operation for Air Education and Training Command.
